Villa Papale – Luxury villa in Taormina
by f.ajelloVilla Papale
Taormina – Eastern Sicily
10 Sleeps
Villa Papale is built onto a rocky cliff which soars high above the town of Taormina. From the windows there are breathtaking views over Taormina’s Ancient Greek Theatre to the splendid bays of Mazzarò and Sant’Alessio. The villa, which follows the steep contours of the cliff, has two entrances, one uphill, one down. Villa Papale was built right into the cliff, and in some of the rooms you can see the bare rock. The different levels of the house are connected by external staircases, as it is typical in the houses of upper Taormina. At the downhill entrance are two small but very well designed apartments and one signgle room with bathroom en suite. On the next level is the main villa surrounded by a small and well-kept garden and a fabulous infinity-edge swimming pool. The gardens are set with elegant furniture and sheltered by porticos, making them a truly restful place to relax. Accommodation on the ground floor is simple and modern, but the main villa is furnished with antiques belonging to the aristocratic descendents of the owners.

Torre del Falco – Luxury villa in Castelvetrano
by f.ajello
A long avenue bordered with magnificent trees forms the splendid approach to Torre del Falco, an imposing late 19th-century villa a few kilometres from the sea in the west of Sicily.
Built entirely of ancient stone, the villa is surmounted by the distinctive tower for which it is named, and surrounded by a magnificent garden planted with olive and citrus trees, palms and cypresses. There is also an exquisitely tended English lawn with a large swimming pool.
The gentle sound of water running into a small lake surrounded by papyrus and bamboo, completes the idyllic picture. Indeed at times, it’s only too easy to imagine you are in an enchanted place. The interior of the villa is decorated with a sophisticated mix of old and new, while at the same time being functional and comfortable.
The villa is laid out on two levels connected by a distintive stone staircase. Reception rooms and kitchen are on the ground floor, the bedrooms upstairs.
There is also a small independent cottage with 2 bedrooms and two bathrooms

L’antica Scuderia – luxury villa near Selinunte
by f.ajelloThis fascinating villa was created out of the old stables of a villa, amid a grand feudal estate where citrus trees and olives grow in a verdant valley looking out to the distant blue sea of Selinunte.
The villa is a large stone house, surrounded by a gorgeous garden, overlooking a swimming pool with waterfall. Both restoration and style are outstanding in their attention to detail: the floors are of ancient terracotta interspersed with Sicilian majolica; there are comfortable and ample leather divans; and antique furniture is juxtaposed with curios from India and Morocco collected in the owner’s travels.
The the huge living area has three huge windows – originally entrances to the stables – and a balcony where once upon a time the hay was stacked. It now leads to a small study and to the sleeping area.
The peace of the place is rendered even more idyllic by an silvery waterfall fed by a small fountain in the garden and from a nearby lake.
A large patio looks onto the swimming pool and garden is the perfect place for spending summer evenings.

Sicily’s Easter processions and celebrations are the most famous in Italy. They are the legacy of the 17th century Spanish domination of the island, and still bear a close resemblance to current Easter traditions in Spain.
One of the most famous procession is in Trapani and is called “I Misteri” (the mysteries).
It is a parade of a group of sculpted religious statues from 17th century and 18th century in a procession in the historical centre lasting for more than 16 hours, from Good Friday to Holy Saturday. After this intense and for same aspects fascinating night, on Good Saturday, at about 1 p.m., I Misteri are carried back to the Church of the Purgatory. What makes this religious procession unique is the tension and the passion of each participant.
“I Misteri” procession, in Trapani, represents the most important traditional event of the year for the local community, the oldest and longest one in Italy, attracting many visitors.
Another interesting procession is in Modica. On Easter morning, the statues of the resurrected Christ and Virgin Mary are taken outside the church , this procession in Sicilian dialect is called
“A Maronna Vasa Vasa” (Madonna that kisses her son).
