Netural Reserve of Vendicari

by f.ajello

Cala Mosche - Vendicari

L’Oasi di Vendicari has been a          nature reserve since 1984.

Today it is internationally recognised as one of the most vital coastal reserves in Europe, attracting 100s of species of migratory birds every year.As well as seeing typical Mediterranean maquis in all its splendour, you can swim in crystal-clear waters, and walk for miles along beaches of fine white sand. It is not for nothing that people compare the beach at Cala Mosca with those of the Caribbean!

The reserve is just 14km south of Noto, one of eight towns in the Val di Noto declared by UNESCO to be World Heritage sites as unique examples of Sicilian Baroque town planning and architecture.
In the surrounding area are the fascinating natural reserves of Fiume Irminio, Prainito, and Manghisi; the cave necropoli of Pantalica and Castelluccio, and small cultural towns such as Modica e Scicli which together with Noto have a rich season of cultural events every summer.

Panarea – Aeolian Islands

by f.ajello

Panarea – whose name comes from Panaraia (all disjointed) – is the smallest isle of the Aeolian islands: it’s 3,400 kmq large and it is 11,5 miles from Lipari. It has always been very little populated and thanks to its remoteness and wonderful sea, it’s now the most loved isle in the archipelago. Some time ago, many people – who had arrived in Panarea as visitors – decided to buy land and ruins, which, once restored according to the local style – have made it the poshest isle in Sicily.
Its small size and little alleys – lighted only by torches – prevent cars to spoil the atmosphere, which is absolutely amazing.
Panarea is an exclusive isle and you can easily realize it watching the many huge yachts parked in the best spots – such as Cala Junco – and the helicopters landing strip.
Besides the gorgeous nature and the interesting architecture, Panarea has a great night life: high standard restaurants for the most exigent gourmets from all over the world, discos on the sea, exclusive shops. Once you come here, you’d like to stay forever!
