Erice, Motya and Cous-Cous cooking lesson
by f.ajelloErice is unique in Sicily, a mystical ancient city hidden by fog in winter time and overlooking the city of Trapani and the Aegadian islands, providing spectacular views. The town is a perfect synthesis of art, landscape and history and keeps intact the magic ambience of its past splendour. There are countless churches to be visited and 2 castle, Pepoli and Venus ; the second one built on top of the ancient Temple of Venus. It was well-known throughout the Mediterranean area in the ancient age, and an important cult was celebrated in it. Lunch is suggested in a local famous pastry shop where it is possible to taste the traditional Sicilian snacks and sweets.
We will then move downhill and drive along the beautiful road of Salt pans among old wind mills, hundreds of pink flamingos and countless hills of white salt.
Right in the middle of the lagoon emerges the island of Motya, an ancient and powerful Phoenician colony, where we will arrive on board of small boats. Today headquarter of the Withaker Foundation, Motya is a charming archaeological site and hosts a great example of museum. To do not miss “sunset time” facing the salt pan!
For those interested in a cous-cous cooking lesson, we suggest to extend your day trip to Bonagia. In an aristocratic private dwelling, the owner will put you apart the secret of a hand-made cous-cous in an elegant, ethnic ambience.
