A truly special day in the company of the Duchess of Palma, Nicoletta Lanza Tomasi

A truly special day in the company of the Duchess of Palma, Nicoletta Lanza Tomasi, a direct descendant of Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, author of “Il Gattopardo”- The Leopard.
A trip to the old city markets which still retain the atmosphere of the Arab souks to buy the necessary ingredients for the cooking lesson. Once the food shopping is done you will take a pleasant stroll through the city’s historic centre where you can admire some of the city’s major monuments, with a knowledgeable commentary from Nicoletta.
On arrival at the Lampedusa palace, last residence of the famous writer, you will be accompanied on a tour of the building, followed immediately afterwards by a cooking lesson in the palazzo’s kitchen.
Lunch, consisting of the food you have just prepared is eaten in the great State room in the company of the Palazzo’s current owners.
The day trip lasts approximately from 8.30am – 3.30 /4.00pm.

Full day excursion to the famous town of Taormina. Visit of its monuments and the Greek Theatre – one of the few examples and best preserved of Hellenistic theatre in the world and time for shopping along “Corso Umberto”.
We will then take traditional wooden boats out to the beach of Isola Bella and along the Ionian coast with its sea grottoes. Seafood lunch by the sea in a reputed “trattoria.”

After lunch we will be taken back on boat while giving a look to some grottoes along the coast. We also take in the extraordinary lava formations of the Alcantara river gorge at the base of Etna, where you can admire the amazing effect created by the contact of hot lave with cold water.
But Taormina also deserves a by night visit: sunset at the Greek-Roman theatre, shopping along Corso Umberto and dinner in a former Dominican convent which has been turned into a luxurious hotel with stunning views and excellent restaurant.

Of course Agrigento means to have a visit to the “Valley of Temples”, a huge area declared World heritage and icon of the town in the world. An experience to do not miss and to combine with a pic-nic at the nearby ancient garden of Kolimbetra where we can admire the local flora and the ancient Arab watering system (still in use in many Sicilian oranges farming).
For those interested in a cooking lesson, we will be pleased to introduce you to the charming owner of a Olive grow Farm, chef for passion and great host. Lunch at the Farm and cooking lesson at early afternoon.

Erice is unique in Sicily, a mystical ancient city hidden by fog in winter time and overlooking the city of Trapani and the Aegadian islands, providing spectacular views. The town is a perfect synthesis of art, landscape and history and keeps intact the magic ambience of its past splendour. There are countless churches to be visited and 2 castle, Pepoli and Venus ; the second one built on top of the ancient Temple of Venus. It was well-known throughout the Mediterranean area in the ancient age, and an important cult was celebrated in it. Lunch is suggested in a local famous pastry shop where it is possible to taste the traditional Sicilian snacks and sweets.
We will then move downhill and drive along the beautiful road of Salt pans among old wind mills, hundreds of pink flamingos and countless hills of white salt.
Right in the middle of the lagoon emerges the island of Motya, an ancient and powerful Phoenician colony, where we will arrive on board of small boats. Today headquarter of the Withaker Foundation, Motya is a charming archaeological site and hosts a great example of museum. To do not miss “sunset time” facing the salt pan!
For those interested in a cous-cous cooking lesson, we suggest to extend your day trip to Bonagia. In an aristocratic private dwelling, the owner will put you apart the secret of a hand-made cous-cous in an elegant, ethnic ambience.

Meeting with guides who are experts on Mount Etna, and depart for a trip up the most active volcano in Europe by off-road jeep, travelling past lava caves, and extinct craters into the eerie Valle del Bove, filled up by centuries of lava flows.
We also take in the extraordinary lava formations of the Alcantara river gorge at the base of Etna, where you can either simply visit the canyon, or, more adventurously, take a “Canyoning” experience** down the river rapids. Provided by neoprene suit, helmet and life jacket, to take part to this activity you need to be reasonable fit.
We will lunch on a variety of traditional local dishes, accompanied by an excellent Rosso dell’Etna wine.
Back to your Villa at sunset.
Except for winter months, we can also reach 2.900 mt. a.s.l. and come in touch with the main crater and the very deep essence of the volcano.
