Salt pants

Visita guidata della famosa cittadina di Erice, che sorge sulla vetta di un monte isolato a 750 mt dal mare, che domina la città di Trapani.
La cittadina è una meravigliosa sintesi di arte, storia e paesaggio, essa infatti conserva praticamente intatto il suo centro medievale, perfettamente integrato con la morfologia del monte ed armoniosamente fuso con la splendida natura circostante.
Innumerevoli i monumenti da visitare – più di sessanta chiese, il magnifico giardino del Balio, ed i 2 bellissimi castelli del Pepoli e di Venere, quest’ultimo costruito sui resti di un templio alla dea Venere.
Per colazione, suggeriamo gli assaggi di salato e dolce presso una rinomata gastronomia locale.
Subito dopo colazione, attraversando la magnifica via del sale, con le saline a perdita d’occhio sullo stagnone ed i suoi tipici mulini, si arriva all’imbarcadero storico da dove partono i battelli che collegano l’isoletta di Mothia, sede della fondazione Withaker, alla terraferma.
Pip Withaker, esponente di una delle più importanti famiglie di coloni inglesi in Sicilia, acquistò l’isola nel primi del sec. XX e ne fece il più importante centro di raccolta di reperti fenici, nonché la sede di un importantissimo museo ornitologico.

Per chi avesse la voglia di proseguire la giornata, lezione di cous-cous in un baglio( tipica costruzione siciliana) appartenente ad una famiglia dell’aristocrazia locale e cena in un’ammaliante atmosfera etnica

tempio di Segesta

Visita guidata al magnifico tempio di Segesta, costruito durante l’ultimo trentennio del V secolo a.C., sulla cima di una collina a ovest della città, fuori dalle sue mura; per la sua fattura e per il suo attuale stato di conservazione, esso può considerarsi uno fra i templi più belli dell’antichità.
Dopo la visita del tempio la visita continua al Teatro, posto sulla collina opposta a quella del tempio, a circa 440 metri di altezza.
Dal teatro, che poteva contenere sino a 3000 persone, si ammira il panorama della vallata sottostante sino al mare.
Per colazione raggiungeremo l’azienda agricola di una antica famiglia nobiliare, che si distingue per l’accoglienza charmant e per l’ottima produzione vinicola; si visiterà la cantina e si gusteranno piatti tipici della tradizione culinaria locale.

Palazzo Beneventano

Sicilian tour  – Two professionally presented cookery classes, one at a
farmhouse and another at a Cheese research centre. Others might say the breathtaking Temples of Agrigento and Segesta closely followed by the well preserved amphitheatre in Taormina with Mt Etna as a dramatic backdrop. Then for some it was getting up close to majestic Norman architecture in its cathedrals and castles. For me, looking at a palazzo one night in the Piazza of Ortigia and seeing a row of glittering chandeliers on its first floor and wondering what treasures and history lie within and next day our group being invited by its Baron resident, to that Palazzo for lunch. He regaled us with a story of his ancestors entertaining Sir and Lady Emma Hamilton and the one armed Admiral Lord Nelson. In the Baron’s Ortigian salon we learned that Emma, a pioneer of ‘performance art’ created her ‘attitudes’,
of wrapping herself in sheer (read see-through) swathes of fabric and striking poses to recreate famous mythological figures as painted or sculpted by artists. Her adoring husband assisted in holding a large empty frame in front of her pose, whilst her lover Lord Nelson looked on.
All agreed the landscape and built environment was not what they expected and they came away with a feeling they had definitely gained a sense of having seen something uniquely different from the other regions they had visited in Italy. Each year I like to change the tour a little and have now added Sicilian gardens for 2009.
If you have already visited Sicily or want to discover more of it charms, the Aeolian Islands await. In 2004 my journey took me to its islands by car and ferry. This is where you meet relatives of neighbours in Australia. You could do as I did, or charter a yacht if you are a sailor or hire a skipper. Just as glamourous to fly in by helicopter and use the ferries to island hop between each. My agents in Sicily will handle this and any type of accommodation you need, either in a resort or apartment.
